Our first embarrassing story to tell when she's in high school...

Harper is now 8 weeks old, which is around the age when baby's digestive systems start to slow down and mature.  Her diaper used to be dirty at every changing, but all of a sudden one day she started slowing down and then all of a sudden didn't poop for 2 days!!  She was super cranky (and gassy) and we figured it was because she hadn't pooped!  We couldn't handle the fussiness anymore, so we decided to try to help her out.  Following some tips from a baby book, Glenn drew a warm bath and got in while holding Harper.  After 15 more minutes of grunting, farting, and crying with intermittent moments of calm, still nothing.  Another trick to try was to stick a thermometer up there for about five minutes to see if that helps things along.  We thought 'what the heck,' and decided to try it.  Poor thing...she'd hate it, then be okay with it, and with every farting episode we were both jumping and then laughing hysterically at our first interesting hurdle as new parents.  And then FINALLY!!  Harper pooped a good one...and remember she's in the bathtub...with Glenn.  :)  We were cracking up at our success.  And thank goodness, after that she was back to our sweet baby girl.  And I am proud to announce she pooped twice yesterday, and then once today so far.  Hooray!!

And another exciting update...she has started smiling!!!  They are few and far between, but she likes her chin kissed and that will get a smile sometimes.  And sometimes she laughs, too.  Right now it sounds like a cough, but it's still super cute!!

xoxoxo,

The Christensens
