We're Home!

Hey everyone!

I just thought I'd send a quick note to let you all know that Glenn and I got everything moved back to good ol' Jess Valley on Thursday! As of right now we're living at the ranch (yes, still in our lovely camp trailer, hehe), waiting for escrow to close. I finally saw the house on the inside and we are so excited!! Now we're just waiting to hear back if everything is still "a go" or not since we had to turn down their offer to split the bill with them for the new septic system. We felt bad about doing that but we're at our limits as it is!! Not that the house is that expensive, but for first time home buyers it's been quite a learning experience!

Anyway...like usual, cross your fingers for us and hopefully we'll be moving in to our new house soon!!

Love you all,

Lindsay, Glenn, Keno, Molly & baby Harper :)

Septic tanks...grrr...

Hello!

So the sellers got the septic system checked out and it looks like the tank is a goner! We were worried we were already getting a crash course in home ownership! But the good news is...I think they're going to replace it without it costing us anything! Man they really want to get rid of this house! So we'll have a brand new septic system when we move in!

Woo-hoo!

So you're a college graduate...

Another thing that I (Lindsay) get asked all the time is "What are you going to do after you graduate?" or "Can you use that in Alturas?" :) Just to keep you all updated on my dreams and aspirations, hehe...eventually I want to have my own business. I want to work for myself, and maybe someday get my contractor's license. If I do that, Glenn can also quit his job and work under my license and then get his contractor's license as well. I just have a head start on the 4 years of experience (i.e. my education) required to get it. And then we can have a cute lil' family business, and I'm sure the market will pick up again someday and we can work on our own houses, maybe own some rentals...who knows what the future holds???

For now, though, I just put in an application for a job I'm really excited about. It just came open and had a really quick turn around (just a week!), so I'm hoping that means there won't be a lot of competition. The job is for an Assistant Planner at the Modoc County Planning Department. No, I do not have any urban planning skills, but according to the job description, they wanted a "generalist" (opposed to a specialist) who was creative and has good communication skills. Sounds like me, right?? :) It pays very well (for Alturas and compared to any other entry level job I might land) and it sounds like the experience isn't as important as the enthusiasm and willing to learn. Plus in school I have learned a lot about sustainability and environmental issues, which was mentioned in the job description, and I have a lot of technical skills (drafting, AutoCAD, site plans, Americans with Disabilities Act knowledge, etc.). Interior Design is a similar field, right?? Hehe! So again, cross your fingers for us and again, we'll keep you updated!!

I have to say...2008 is a great year for the Christensen Fam. :) Love you all!

Ultrasound Update

Hi everyone,

Another thing I thought I'd mention on here was at our ultrasound at 18 weeks, they noted that I have "Marginal Placenta Previa." It will probably move to a more normal position as my uterus grows, so there most likely won't be any complications, but we get to get an extra ultrasound at 28-30 weeks to check and make sure so I'll keep you all updated then!

Oldie, but a goodie!

Lindsay recorded this on her cell phone at a doctor appointment back in March. It takes awhile, but you can definitely hear it at about 0:35 and near the end!

Sorry about the multiple posts...I just had to find a better way to get it on here!

If you're getting this by e-mail and not seeing anything, click the link or go straight to the blog to see/hear it!!

House Photos

Here are some more photos of the house Glenn and I are looking at buying! It needs a little work but it's all cosmetic. Should be fun!

New Photo - 21 Weeks!

I just had my roommate, Andrea, take a picture of me at 21 weeks so I thought I'd post it! Enjoy!

Where are you going to live??

Glenn and I get asked this question A LOT! So I wanted to write a little post about that. Right now Lindsay lives in a rental house in Chico with 2 roommates and the dogs. Glenn lives on the ranch in Jess Valley in our cute little camp trailer! :) We have been throwing ideas around for housing for a while...we obviously need something before September! And we don't want to rent anymore - we really want a house that we can work on and call our own.

As for the real estate market in Alturas...prices are still really low, but we're cheap and want a good deal! We looked at a few houses and weren't impressed...then we went and looked at some manufactured homes and lots for sale in town...closer, but we were still afraid the costs were going to get away from us. For some reason we started looking at a house in Likely that has been for sale for a long time...and then right after that the price has dropped $15,000! And we hadn't even talked to a real estate agent yet! Anyway...we called the agent last week and Glenn went over a few times and peeked in the windows and looked at the house and lot. It's brick, very solid, very nice on the outside. The inside is a different story, but we originally wanted something that we could work on ourselves and this looks like it might be it! We haven't seen the bathrooms (apparently they're very colorful) but everything works great. We feel like everything just might be falling into place, so cross your fingers for us! I'll post more if this is what we decide to do...so any good vibes and advice on buying a house would be greatly appreciated! We are already pre-approved for a loan so hopefully with everything that is going on we can squeeze this in so we don't have to live out on the ranch for too long.

Here is a link...let us know what you think!!
