Another thing that I (Lindsay) get asked all the time is "What are you going to do after you graduate?" or "Can you use that in Alturas?" :) Just to keep you all updated on my dreams and aspirations, hehe...eventually I want to have my own business. I want to work for myself, and maybe someday get my contractor's license. If I do that, Glenn can also quit his job and work under my license and then get his contractor's license as well. I just have a head start on the 4 years of experience (i.e. my education) required to get it. And then we can have a cute lil' family business, and I'm sure the market will pick up again someday and we can work on our own houses, maybe own some rentals...who knows what the future holds???
For now, though, I just put in an application for a job I'm really excited about. It just came open and had a really quick turn around (just a week!), so I'm hoping that means there won't be a lot of competition. The job is for an Assistant Planner at the Modoc County Planning Department. No, I do not have any urban planning skills, but according to the job description, they wanted a "generalist" (opposed to a specialist) who was creative and has good communication skills. Sounds like me, right?? :) It pays very well (for Alturas and compared to any other entry level job I might land) and it sounds like the experience isn't as important as the enthusiasm and willing to learn. Plus in school I have learned a lot about sustainability and environmental issues, which was mentioned in the job description, and I have a lot of technical skills (drafting, AutoCAD, site plans, Americans with Disabilities Act knowledge, etc.). Interior Design is a similar field, right?? Hehe! So again, cross your fingers for us and again, we'll keep you updated!!
I have to say...2008 is a great year for the Christensen Fam. :) Love you all!
