We're finally home!!

Little Harper Lillie was finally discharged on Sunday and Glenn and Grandma Cathy came to pick us up from the hospital!  Her final weight at the hospital was 6 pounds, 2.8 ounces, and she was weighed today by a Public Health nurse, and with her diaper and onesie on she weighed 6 pounds, 7.2 ounces!!

Here's some fun pics we've taken in the last couple days...especially the ones of daddy and mommy giving her her first bath at home!!

Almost there!

Happy 2 week birthday, Harper!!  Here's an update...

She is up to 5 lbs., 15.2 oz. today!!  So she has gained almost a pound in the last 2 weeks!!  (She was born at 5 lbs., 9 oz., but went down to 5 lbs., 1 oz.).  She should be 6 pounds by tomorrow!!

Anyway, she is feeding GREAT!!  She has got breastfeeding down, and is learning to use a bottle...that is all we were waiting for, so we should be able to go home any day now!

They called today and asked us to bring her car seat in to do a "car seat study," which just monitors her while she sits in it to make sure she can handle it...and if they're asking to do one, then she should be able to leave in her car seat soon!!

Everything else is great...mommy got to give her a bath on Tuesday night and she loved carrying Harper to the bath with no wires or feeding tube in!  Plus her little umbilical cord is going to fall off any day now...she's just getting bigger and bigger every day!!

I can't wait to write and let you all know that she's home!!  Yay!!

Love,

Smiley baby!

Just a cutie patootie picture of Ms. Harper!!  She smiles all the time now, especially in her sleep.

Update:  She successfully and completely fed herself from mom today!!  If she just keeps that up and gains weight we will be home in no time!!

Harper Lillie Christensen is here!

Hi everyone!

Our beautiful daughter, Harper Lillie, decided to make an early debut!  She was born on August 7th, 2008 at 11:11 PM, which was 6 weeks early!  She was 5 lbs, 9 oz and 19 inches long, has a lot of dark hair and her dad's lips and her mom's ears and chin!  No one is really sure why she decided to come early, but we're glad that she's here and we get to spend 6 extra weeks getting to know her!  We are still in the hospital for a couple more weeks in the NICU here at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, but she is doing great and we can't wait to take her home!

Lindsay went in for her regular 34 week appointment on August 6th, but had been having some light bleeding that morning...she was checked and was told she was in labor!  Her pregnancy was textbook perfect, so it's a mystery!!  The doctor decided to get her to a bigger medical center with a NICU for preterm babies, so she and Glenn were flown to RVMC from Lakeview, OR.

Harper has been coming along fabulously, though, so no worrying allowed!!  She is no longer in the incubator, she no longer has to wear any breathing devices, she doesn't have an IV anymore, she doesn't have to be under the biliruben light, and today they took her oxygen sensor off!  All that is left is a feeding tube as she is too little to breastfeed on her own (she would burn more calories than she could take in, plus she's still working on coordination when she's eating!), plus the sensors that just monitor her heart rate and respirations.  So now she "practices" eating from mom and then gets fed pumped milk with some extras added so she gains more weight.  She is a little cutie and is awake and alert (until she's got a full belly!) and gaining every day.  Hopefully we'll be home in 2 weeks!!  We'll keep you updated with her progress!

xoxoxo,

Glenn, Lindsay & baby Harper
